Festival Guest Timothy Spall

Timothy SpallThe 2019 MINI British Film Festival has the honour of welcoming legendary actor Timothy Spall as the Festival Guest. Spall will be in attendance for select Q&A sessions with his film Mrs Lowry & Son in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Byron Bay.

Timothy Leonard Spall was born on February 27, 1957 in Battersea, London. He was one of four sons born to a postman and a hairdresser. In his teens, he joined the National Youth Theatre and eventually made his foray into professional acting with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Following a film debut in 1979 cult film Quadrophenia, he gained wider TV exposure playing the awkward Barry Taylor in all four series of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.

Spall was appointed the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2000 New Year Honours and in 2014 he won the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for portraying J. M. W. Turner in Mike Leigh's biographical film Mr. Turner.
