Fisherman's Friends
Australian Premiere

This uplifting and picturesque true story of the part-time Cornish sea shanty group that hit the big time unfolds in the charming fishing town of Port Isaac, Cornwall.

Prolific UK television star Daniel Mays plays Danny Anderson, a cynical, fast-living talent scout who rolls into Port Isaac as part of a stag weekend. Danny and his charmless chums are scorned by the locals as they represent the invading hordes of outsiders who flood the Cornish seaside every year. As a prank, Danny’s slick boss convinces him to sign a local group of a cappella singing fisherman. But Danny struggles to gain the respect and enthusiasm of the unlikely boy band. By the time he realises that the joke is on him, the unique charm and passion of the group and the townspeople have captured Danny’s heart and the Fisherman’s Friends are set on a path to stardom.

Brimming with wit, warmth and energy, this comedy is evocative of Waking Ned and The Full Monty, teaching the value of friendship and community over fame and fortune while evaluating the meaning of success with a different set of terms.
